Are you among the thousands headed to Austin, Texas this week for SXSW? In addition to the cutting edge technology, world class cinematography and earth rattling musical riches be sure and check out some of the amazing art showcases on display around town.
We’ve put together a short list of our personal favorites. (Spoiler alert: they’re all heavy on LED lighting!)
SXSW Eco’s- Light Garden at Republic Square Park: Last year’s light garden was such an overwhelming success, they decided to bring it back again for a second year! With a host of new installations that engage all you senses, come interact with light, sound and geometry. No badge required, free and open to the public.
Simon Heijdens’- Tree: A location sensitive light projection in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of ‘Tree’. Come nightfall, projected falling leaves will reflect how different parts of Austin are used during the festival. Catch it on large-scale walls, and secluded paths throughout a wide array of SXSW locations.
Houndstooth Studio’s- Intersection: Large-scale geometric sculptures tower overhead- edges trimmed in LED lights enabled with sensors to detect when people are near. Lights react as participants draw close, glowing brighter as you approach. We love this interactive take on art!
The Windmill Factory’s- Light Field: These wirelessly controlled LED balloons float dreamily as visitors pass through the rows of circular hues of light and sound. Both color and speed transform in the Light Field, with live sets to be performed by Leah Siegel of Leisure Cruise. Check out this amazing video of the balloon grove live in action!
